William and Bertha’s story is a beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness and His perfect guidance over a lifetime.
They first met in 1987 while serving in the United States Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. From the very beginning, they recognized something deeper than just a connection—they shared a love for Christ and a heart for serving others. That foundation became the anchor for their lives together.
In 1989, they were married, and soon after, Bertha was assigned to England. During that season, William stepped into the role of a stay-at-home father to their newborn son. It was not an easy time—there were challenges, uncertainty, and even health struggles—but through it all, God proved faithful. Day by day, they leaned on Him, trusting His hand even when they couldn’t fully see the path ahead.
After returning to the United States, they both sensed that God had more in store. They continued to seek Him in prayer, asking for clarity and direction for their lives.
In 1996, William began serving as a police officer, pouring into his community and engaging in outreach wherever he could. While his work made a meaningful impact, there remained a stirring in his heart—a sense that God was calling him deeper into a life fully devoted to discipleship and service.
Years later, after moving to Texas in 2007, God began connecting more pieces of His plan. William met Kimberly through the corporate world, not realizing at the time that God would use that connection to further His Kingdom. Conversations about Jesus and the desire to see lives changed became a common thread.
Then came a trip that would change everything.
When William and Bertha traveled to Costa Rica, what started as a simple vacation quickly became something much more. They fell in love with the people and the culture, and they couldn’t stay away—returning every six months. With each visit, God continued to stir their hearts. What began as a pull became a clear calling: this is where He was leading them.
As they traveled throughout the country, God directed them to a specific village that would eventually become home. The community welcomed them like family, and it became evident that God had gone before them, preparing the way.
Now, they are faithfully serving there—building relationships, loving people, and sharing the hope of Christ in real and tangible ways.
In 2026, God has continued to expand that calling through their partnership with Sea of Hope Ministries. With humble hearts, they are walking in obedience, trusting the wisdom and guidance of a ministry devoted to making disciples who make disciples.
Through every season—every challenge, every step of faith, and every open door—William and Bertha give all the glory to God. It is His story they are living, and His faithfulness that has brought them exactly where they are today.
